About the Role

The Associate Director – Rail (Deputy Head) will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of rail and transit infrastructure projects. The position requires extensive experience in track geometry, rail alignment engineering, feasibility assessments, and technical leadership. The selected candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative rail solutions that meet safety, operational, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Track Design and Engineering

  • Develop detailed track design plans for rail and transit projects.
  • Design track alignments considering curvature, grading, elevation, and operational requirements.
  • Optimize track layouts to improve safety, efficiency, and performance.
  • Ensure track designs comply with project specifications and engineering standards.

Alignment Studies and Analysis

  • Conduct alignment studies to identify the most effective routes for rail and transit systems.
  • Evaluate geographical, environmental, and topographical constraints during route planning.
  • Perform technical assessments and feasibility analyses to support project decision-making.
  • Utilize advanced engineering software to model and analyze alignment alternatives.

Technical Documentation

  • Prepare comprehensive design reports, technical specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • Coordinate with drafting teams to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Maintain high-quality technical records throughout project lifecycles.
  • Review and validate engineering deliverables before project submission.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure all track and alignment designs adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay informed about evolving railway engineering practices and safety protocols.
  • Contribute to the development of internal engineering standards and best practices.
  • Support quality assurance and risk management initiatives.

Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, transportation planners, and other stakeholders.
  • Integrate track and alignment designs within broader infrastructure project scopes.
  • Provide technical guidance during project execution and construction phases.
  • Resolve design-related challenges and support successful project delivery.

Required Qualifications

Candidates interested in this position should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 5 years or more of relevant experience in rail engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Proven expertise in track design and rail alignment engineering.
  • Experience working on rail transit, metro, high-speed rail, or transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of railway standards, engineering regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Technical Skills

AECOM is seeking professionals with hands-on experience using industry-standard engineering tools, including:
